How to choose your agent

A good agent sells at the right price, within a reasonable time, and keeps you informed. A few criteria to compare:

   Proximity

   A local agent knows the buildings, the sought-after streets and the buyers in the area, and organises viewings more easily.

   Recent sales in the area

   The best sign of experience: how many homes like yours the agency has recently sold near you, and at what price.

   Reviews and referrals

   Ask sellers who used the agency: quality of follow-up, price achieved, time to sell.

   Transparency

   Clearly stated fees, type of mandate (exclusive or not), length of commitment: everything should be in writing before you sign.

   A reasoned valuation

   A serious valuation relies on comparable sales, not on a promise of a high price to win the mandate.

   Responsiveness

   Response time, viewing reports, negotiation advice: a good agent supports you until the deed is signed.
